“The Morning After”

November 26th, 2010

For all those who love fashion and photography as much as I do, here’s another tip: There is a David Drebin exhibition starting at Camera Work tomorrow. The Opening starts at 11h. Between 14h and 17h the is going to be a book signing, where you have the oportunity to meet the photographer in person.

David Drebin is an internationally successful comercial and fashion photographer. He has shoot commercials for customers such as American Express, Davidoff, Mercedes, MTV, Nike, and Sony. His fashion photographes have been published in magazines like Elle, GQ, Marie Claire, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Travel and Leisure, and Vanity Fair.

The canadian photograoher got a voyeuristic, glamorous and slightly kitschy Style. His pictures are very colourfull and sometimes almost seem unreal. Like in a fashion Barbie plastic world. They mostly show beautifull, rich people in front of a metropolitan backround.

He has also portrait a huge amount of celebrities such as Charlize Theron,  Emily Blunt and Catherine Malandrino.

Dreams and Friends

November 23rd, 2010

Last week I accidently stumbled into an exhibition opening of Ailine Linefeld. Ailine is a young and talented photographer who lives and works in Berlin. You might think: “Well, yet another Berlin based photographer.” But somehow her unadorned pictures got something that touches you. Maybe it’s because Ailine often tends to photograph her friends that you immediately feel like you get to know that person you are looking at in her pictures. Many of the photos seem like incidentally taken. They reflect a dreamily and intimate atmosphere.

Women Then

September 19th, 2010

I am a big fan of vintage movies and photographs. Women just had an elegance and gracefullness you can hardly find nowadays. They were surrounded by some kind of mysticim. I think photographers and filmmakers must have had a totally different view on femineity than they have today.

In October a new photo collection called “Women Then” will be published by Rizzoli. The book shows rarely-seen images taken between 1954 and 1969 by Jerry Schatzberg, who was both photgrapher and film-maker. The collection contains a mixture of fashion photography, portraits and snapshots of fair and beautiful women like Nico, Faye Dunaway (in her better times), Edie Sedgwick, Sharon Tate, and Catherine Deneuve.

Schatzbergs work has been published in magazines like Vogue, Glamour, and Life in the 1960s.

Peter Lindbergh @ C/O Berlin

September 13th, 2010

„What‘s so striking about black and white photography is how it really helps a sense of reality to come through.“

© Peter Lindbergh, Natalia Vodianova

Fiction and reality, beauty and melancholy, strength and fragility – those are properties world class photographer Peter Lindbergh wants to combine in his comprehensive work of almost exclusively black-and-white photographed fashion pictures. Of course – as it is fashion photography – he is predominantly shooting women of extraordinary beauty, but at the same time, he brings his pictures into being something more than just beautiful. He always creates some kind of melancholy as if the models just ponder on the deeper sense behind the superficiality and randomness of fashion.

During his impressive and long-lasting career the German photographer worked with international superstars such as Sharon Stone, Madonna, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Naomi Campbell, Jeanne Moreau, Penélope Cruz, Catherine Deneuve and Uma Thurman for magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Harper`s Bazaar, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone.

On the 25th of September C/O Berlin, International Forum For Visual Dialogues, starts the exhibition „Films and Photographes“ which will show a selection of more than 200 examples of his work. On the occation of the exhibition the arist will hold a lecture at 15 h. Pre-selling started today at the entrance of C/O Berlin. It is recomended to get your tickets as soon as possible, as large demand is exspected. The exhibitions opening will take place the day before at 19 h. Read the rest of this entry »

Opening reception »FACE/project« @ Camera Work

September 10th, 2010

Lately I have allready told you about the exhibition “Nudes” at the photo gallery Camera Work. Last weekend they opened their next exhibition “Face/project”. It shows more than 30 works of the photographers Tina Berning and Michelangelo Di Battista. In their collaboration the artists blur the boundaries between fashion photography, drawing, and painting.

At the opening on Saturday people could enjoy the art work inside and have a little drink and chat underneath the parasols in the beautiful court of the building. I just love openings at Camera Work. They are always very classy.

GRETCHEN F/W 2010

August 25th, 2010

Although I am a winter fan it is always a bit sad when summer draws to a close. But still there is not least one thing that keeps me happy: The thought of the new F/W collection. In the summertime it is great to run around barefoot and wear sundresses, but winter clothes somehow are more classy.

Of course GRETCHEN bags are exactly the right accessory to complete your elegant winter look. We sure had some fun at the shooting for the F/W 2010 collection. Here are some exclusive behind the scenes pictures to prove:

»NUDES« Positions of Nude Art Photography @ Camera Work

August 24th, 2010

When it comes to nude photography there is always a thin line between art and porn. When I was a teenager I used to draw and paint a lot, as art was my main subject at school. So my mother bought me a Playboy photo collection that I could exercise myself in nude drawing without having to convince friends to pose for me.

When I look through this book there are many pornlike pictures I would rather not see. But there are also some really beautiful and classy pictures you can definitely call art.

A couple of days ago I went to one of my favourite photo galleries in Berlin Camera Work in Charlottenburg. At the moment the gallery shows nude photographs from over 40 photographers including amazing artists like Richard Avedon, David Drebin, Horst P. Horst, Russell James, Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Ralph Mecke, Helmut Newton and many more.

If you want to see this exibition, you’ll have to hurry: It only runs until Saturday. The next exibition starts on the 4th of September and is about portrait photography. Camera work is always worth a visit as they have quite a large collection of very good photographs and the exibitions are always free.
